As soon as the war was over circulation dropped back down to where it started and declined hard after that.

There's a reason most of the pulps were already gone by the time the '50s rolled around.JD Cowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03548340507655076198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4520528486728008071.post-90456366573459609872022-02-13T18:49:10.266-05:002022-02-13T18:49:10.266-05:00"1940 was the last year the pulps increased i..."1940 was the last year the pulps increased in sales at all, and even then it was just barely."

I'm confused. The Street & Smith chart shows 1942 as the year with the most sales (even more than any year of the 1930s). 1943 (although lower) also shows more sales than any year of the 1930s. The numbers don't drop to 1930s levels until 1944, and only starting in 1946 do they drop to a lower number than all years of the 1930s.hbenthowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13797195539880473914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4520528486728008071.post-27702735366729976492022-02-04T21:58:06.695-05:002022-02-04T21:58:06.695-05:00Thanks you for reading it all!
It's certainly...Thanks you for reading it all!

It's certainly changed my thoughts on this entire industry and how its been run for the last century. There is a lot of things I can no longer stomach or abide by any longer, including the silly genre wars.

I think it's more than about time we move past this junk. If this series helps more people understand how false a lot of this is then at least it'll have been worth it.JD Cowanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03548340507655076198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4520528486728008071.post-50056068406077641212022-02-04T21:23:37.102-05:002022-02-04T21:23:37.102-05:00I can understand why the 1939 "World Science ...I can understand why the 1939 "World Science Fiction Convention" was important. Seven miles from downtown, this was being constructed. Scroll through the pictures. Enjoy what looks little different than Soviet statuary.

https://www.1939nyworldsfair.com/
https://archive.ph/TlPOT

But, the 1939 New York World's Fair had a theme that the Fanatics could get behind:

"Building the World of Tomorrow"

You are right that the times were full of this in the early 20th Century. The text mentions the Fandom gathering watching "Metropolis". The Spanish Civil War was raging from 1936 to 1939. Hitler assumed power in Germany and was expanding into neighboring countries. Both fascist and communist ideologies were bandied about at all levels in the US in the 30s.

The hypocrisy is thick with this crowd. 'The Little Yellow Pamphlet of Projection' presented by the Futurians pretty much outlined all of the actions that they previously perpetrated. Rich! Wollheim and Mitchel were slime. Just a notch lower than the rest of the ciphers in this crowd.

"The Association for Democracy in Science Fiction Fandom." We know what 'democracy' means to these samples of locker stuffing material. Communists love them some democracy, every time.

Thank you for reading this glop and helping us understand the larger and more accurate picture of Fandom. Your four series with other historical investigations and reviews stands as an equivalent piece to Jeffro's Appendix N and his associated articles. This helps young creators understand why intensive gatekeeping is critical to their success in providing their readers with quality entertainment.

Well done!

Man of the Atomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15936961988929608221noreply@blogger.com
