Signal Boost ~ Double Crowdfunding Edition

"I missed a crowdfund! No!"

Welcome to a new week! This time I have two different projects to share with you, crowdfunds you might not be aware of. Both of these are quite dissimilar from the norm, which works well for a years and summer that is already far outside the norm.

I like to highlight as many creations from NewPub as I can to really give them a boost for readers of this blog. If we want to make a change we have to support new things, and art quite outside of the scope of the tired mainstream industry. There's really no way around it if we wish to make a change for the better. So, today I will present you two projects.

The first crowdfund is from artist BAR-1 Studios. He is funding a coloring book for kids in time for the Halloween season coming up in a few months. The description is as follows:

The Scares, the Screams, the Season of Halloween!
Yes, that weird and wacky Doctor Atavism is at it again for the very first time! His plan, to release upon the unsuspecting masses a love-letter to the Haunted Attractions Industry and all things Halloween in the form of a COLORING BOOK! The harvest season comes to life, or at least undeath, in six sinister chapters of grisly ghoulish ink illustrations, ready for you to complete with your own artistic flair!
For $3,000 the Doctor and his minions can produce a full print run of the 31 image, 64 single-sided page book and ship in time for fall. The goal is to keep the project simple, with no current plans to add stretch goal after stretch goal. No stickers or bookmarks or prints that will have them diving back into the drawing mines, no tshirts that will add another delay into the logistics and drag out fulfillment. Dr. Atavism knows the flaw that keeps many a mad scientist's schemes from fruition is adding unnecessary complications!
So scroll below to see what tiers are being offered for the physical copies of the book Dr. ATAVISM'S HORRIBLE HALLOWEEN HAUNT COLORING BOOK Vol. 1!

You can find the project here.

If you've got kids, or younger relatives, do be sure to check it out. This is definitely going to be a project they will be interested in.

Of course, this is only the first project. For the second we must jump genres entirely.

The second crowdfund is author Alexander Hellene's new project, which isn't a fiction book! In between his books of high adventure he has decided to do something quite a bit different from his pulp inspired romps! Mr. Hellene is writing a non-fiction book about the band Rush!

That's not quite the usual fare for him, so he's going to crowdfund to see if the audience is there for what he wants to do.

Once again, the description:

"Nowhere is the dreamer or the misfit so alone . . ."
When Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist of legendary rock band Rush, died on January 7, 2020, fans the world over expressed their grief and sadness. Neil's passing was more than just passing news: Fans felt like they knew him. They felt like they knew all three members of Rush . . .
. . . and now the band was definitively over.
I felt these same feelings, having been a Rush fan for over 20 years. Geddy, Alex, and Neil created a body of work that spoke to me, and very often if felt like it spoke to me specifically. In reading tributes to Neil and the band after his death, I realized that millions of other fans felt the same way.
My question was: Why? What was it about Rush fans that makes us respond so strongly to their music? Is there a Rush fan "type"? Are the stereotypes about Rush fans being white middle-aged male nerds true? And most importantly: Why does this band mean so much to us?
So I decided to write a book about it.

I'm a science-fiction author with two novels published, but I decided to throw my hat into the non-fiction ring, put back on my historian's hat, and get to work. I interviewed people such as legendary DJ and media historian Donna Halper, who first broke the band in the U.S., and conducted a survey gathering information and wonderful stories from hundreds of Rush fans.

You can find this project on Indiegogo here.

This is quite a bit to take in, but these two projects are vastly dissimilar from not only each other but what is currently out there. NewPub is shaping up to be a very different place from the rotting flesh of OldPub.

All we need to get off the ground is your help. So please give both these crowdfunds a look. You want find anything like this in OldPub, and that is why we're here.

NewPub is off the chain!
